The second Triumph Herald to be featured in the Christmas Car Calendar is Thomas Scates’ 1966 Herald estate.
The previous owner had replaced the original 1200cc block with a 1300cc engine from the later 13/60 variant (brought out in 1967) so the car has always been a bit of a hot rod.
Thomas has continued to evolve the hot rod Herald into what we see now with a tasteful choice of modification. The original front end has been changed to the fibreglass 13/60 front end to complement the engine. The car has Gaz adjustable suspension all round and sits on Oscam Type 805 3 piece split rims that were made as one off articles in 1982 for an Italian race team.
Finishing the car off is the rather spectacular paint work. The car is two tone, the upper portion obviously being black and the lower section is finished in this stunning VW Metallic Blackberry. The final detail is the lace sprayed roof which I think finishes the car off nicely.
All in all it’s a cool period correct restromod. I’m looking forward to hopefully seeing it at some shows in the coming years!
