FMS FCX24 Stage 1 Upgrades

As per my introductory post on FMS’ FCX24 (which you can read about here: https://motorsportformentalhealth.com/2025/04/03/fms-fcx24-first-impressions/) I knew I wanted to do a couple of upgrades.

The biggest upgrade I felt the truck needed were wheels and tyres.

I got a set of Injora 1 inch wheels with a set of S5 (the stickiest compound they do) all-terrain tyres. They are very sticky!

I also got a pair Injora weighted portal covers for the front axle, just to give it a little more low down nose weight.

The wheels are 3 piece.

The metal ring goes inside the tyre, then the two faces go on either side and sort of pinch the tyre, holding it in place. 6 screws go into the back of the wheel and hold it all together.

The difference is enormous! The factory wheel and tyre combo weighs 18.27 grams.

The Injora wheels weigh 52.24 grams!

The weighted portal covers replace these plastic covers on the knuckle.

First you’re going to want to remove the hexagonal hub that goes to the wheel, and the little pin that holds it to the axle.

Remove the screws in each corner with a 1.5mm hex key and the cover will lift off.

Remove the rear pin holding the axle in place to remove the axle, and pop the two bearings out to transfer into the new portal housing.

Press the bearings in.

And fit the axle.

The kit also included some metal extended hubs. One of our obstacles is a narrow bridge, so I’m just going to put the stock plastic ones back on. I don’t want the wheelbase to be any wider right now.

All back together!

You can see how much wider the new tyres are. They’re the same overall diameter as the factory wheels so won’t rub on the body.

I found this little screw on the C-Hub was also acting as a bump stop for the steering.

So I took it out and put it through the back to give the truck a couple more degrees steering lock.

Be careful when doing this. That screw holds the C-hub to the rest of the chassis and if it moves out, it’ll bring the half shaft with it.

Once the rest of the wheels are fitted. It’s off for another adventure!

I’ve only driven it briefly on a very quickly put together course, so I can’t really give a full review. I can say that the factory wheels and tyres struggled to grip when climbing brick. These tyres have no problem gripping it all, so I’m confident that I’ve improved it!
