Super Touring Power is a celebration of saloon car racing with a focus on the ‘Super Tourers’ from the 1990s.
There was a massive variety of cars that took to the track with classes that covered cars from Pre-1966 all the way up to Pre-2003.
Off track there was a huge show and shine area which seemed pretty open but definitely had an emphasis on the 1990s. It’s this area that we’ll be covering today. I was planning to do the whole day in one post, but the post is getting so long its probably best that I split it up into two.
The variety of cars is best shown by this tiny Honda Z600 which was parked next to this massive Pontiac Bonneville.
There were a fair few BTCC replicas dotted about. There was a larger area for replicas and genuine touring cars that put on a demonstration at lunch time, but we’ll get to that in a while.
Having such a wide variety of cars in the show and shine area gives me a good opportunity to cover some different cars. For instance, Peugeot.
Love the period correct livery on this 309.
The Dimma 205 was styled on the 205 T16 Group B rally car. Properly cool little car!
Speaking of French Group B legends, there was a Renault 5 Turbo also in attendance. Left hand drive with the correct French yellow fog lights too!
Vauxhall are another brand that I don’t tend to cover too often on here either. Cavaliers, Vectras and Astras were all used in the Super Touring era. There were a few dotted about the show.
Notable examples included this Mk2 Astra GTE. I like the burgundy over gold colour combination!
This Calibra (which you very rarely see any of anymore) featuring a period correct ‘Max Power’ style bodykit and wheels.
A Vectra B estate with the full Irmscher package.
Here’s a Volvo 480. I always felt these were somewhat underappreciated. They’re a cool little car.
A cool 240 Estate. The big brick Volvos of the 1980s and 90s will always be cool. the 200 series especially so!
A couple of VWs were on show.
There weren’t actually as many German cars on display as you might think – especially since there were so many E36s and E30s on track.
Kris Morris’ 911 made an appearance.
Along with this nice E36:
A few Italians:
There were lots of Fords from a lot of eras ranging from 105E Anglias up to the Mk1 Focus RS and Racing Puma.
There were some great Japanese cars in attendance – I think this is a Toyota Carina E. I remember seeing these about when I was a kid in the late 90s and early 00s but I didn’t really pay much attention to them at the time. I really can’t remember the last time I saw one on the road though.
Toyota Starlet GT. These are wicked little things – The later Glanza V is my favourite ‘hot hatch’. They’re so much fun!
SW20 MR2s. These are becoming much more collectable and appreciated now.
Toyota Crown Athlete Estate. Would you rather one of these or a Nissan Stagea? It’s a difficult choice!
There was a nice line up of touring cars and tribute cars outside the main grandstands
Opposite the touring car display was a gaming centre with the TOCA Touring Cars games for people to play. There was also this incredible set up of Tamiya RC touring cars. How cool would it be to have a display like that in your house?!
They also had a Volvo 850 in there:
There was a trade stand nearby that had a full size tribute to Tamiya’s Wild One RC buggy. 100 of these were built by The Little Car Company.
Matching Toyota pickup that pays homage to the Bruiser.
Thanks for reading!

Wow, that is such a impressive show!!! I would love to see all those all those Super Tourers up close, even if some of them are replicas.
The Mk2 Astra GTE was produced and sold in Brazil as Chevrolet Kadett GSI.
