RC Cars at SEMA 2023

At SEMA 2023 there were a couple of cool RC displays and booths. As this blog started out covering RC drifting all those years ago, I thought it would be fun to make a post looking at them.

All three times I’ve been to SEMA, Traxxas have been there with a sizeable booth. They do a massive range of cars and trucks.

My personal favourite was this 6×6 low loader. Look at the little winch on the bed!

Chassis dynos for RC cars are really cool! I’d love to have something like this for RC and slot cars!

SuperFlow had this little guy strapped to a dyno. I had a look on their website but all the dynos they sell are for full sized cars.

Team Associated had a full size replica of their 1980s RC10 buggy.

They re-released a limited edition rerun of the classic kit. There were plenty of examples of the finished car on display.

Along with some other cars from their range.

Redcat Racing had my favourite RC stand at SEMA. Redcat build scale lowriders and I really need one! They are so cool!

They also make these lovely COE transporters. The fact that you can attach trailers to these really interests me. If you were to do a national BRCA meeting, you could bring multiple classes of 1/10 scale car to the meet in style!

Redcat also do a drift chassis that I’ve had my eye on since getting back from Vegas.

When I got out of drifting the cars were still four wheel driven with one set of wheels being over or under driven to mimic rear wheel drive. Dedicated rear wheel driven chassis were still very much in their infancy.

With that being said I haven’t really got a clue about RWD chassis, but this looks like it’s a pretty good spec and affordable. https://www.redcatracing.com/collections/rc-on-road/products/redcat-rds-builders-kit?variant=40231407681626

I’d quite like to do another drift car. I’d just be doing it for a giggle but the actual RC drift scene in the U.K seems to be in a strong place at the moment. There are quite a few clubs up and running throughout the country and RC Drift UK have put together a directory of them to help you find your local track. They’ll also be launching a new U.K championship next year! You can find the details on their website here: https://www.rcdrift.uk

There was also a little rock crawling course by the Hoonigan’s area. There were a couple of Axial cars on display, but I don’t believe it was an actual Axial stand.

Thanks for reading! It was nice to see a strong RC representation at SEMA. RC is a great social hobby and it’s not one that you (necessarily) need a lot of space and money for like real cars. RC and slot cars will always be welcome here on this blog as healthy hobbies that can get people into cars.

I still have a lot of SEMA content coming up so if you would like to stay up to date with all my blog posts please subscribe to the blog via email (from the box at the bottom of the page).
