The State of Social Media

Hi guys!

This post is going to be a bit of an unstructured ramble I’m afraid – but that’s how this blog started, so you could say that I’m going back to my roots haha!

Has anyone found that social media, especially Meta products, have been absolutely toxic for the past 6 – 8 months? (I know it’s always had its issues, but it seems to be particularly bad lately.)

I’m not sure what’s changed behind the scenes on the Facebook and Instagram algorithms, but so much of what’s appearing on my feed at the moment is negative, divisive and even sometimes racist nonsense.

I’m not interacting with it, other than hitting the “not interested” button whenever it appears.

Have any of you folks experienced this? Unfortunately there isn’t a hard reset for Facebook and Instagram’s algorithms like there is with TikTok’s and whilst I’ve been tempted to delete both apps, I appreciate their value in promoting this blog and Messenger is useful for keeping up with friends.

On the plus side, I’m spending a lot less time scrolling and more time doing productive things, but it would be nice to be able to open the apps and just see cool cars from pages I follow – not “suggested” political rubbish.

I can see how people get wrapped up in the division that both social media and legacy media seem to just want to pump out, but the hatred it allows people to manifest is really not healthy.

Anyway, hopefully it settles back to normal soon. Now I’ve written this down and sort of got it out of my system, I’ll be getting back to making the car content most of you are here for haha!

Thanks for reading, see you next time for a proper article!
